The limestone formation you see there is supposed to be around 400 million years old. There are three major caves and some smaller ones. Cathedral Cave is the largest and most popular of Batu Caves. There are steps to climb, so be prepared before you reach the cave. There are two cave temples at the foot of Batu Hill: the Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave.

If you are adventurous enough, pay a visit to the Dark Cave. It is highly recommended, but you will need to pay some fees. A 45-minute guided tour will take you through this complex and ecologically-cave system. Get to learn about some of the creepy-crawly creatures that live in these caves. Part of the proceeds from your ticket purchase is used to do conservation and research for the eco-biodiversity in this cave.

Do note that since it is a religious site, you must wear appropriate clothing such as long pants, covered shirts, and long dresses. Also, put on comfortable shoes to climb up the stairs.
